About us
'Padkos' is an Afrikaans word that means ‘food for the road'.
Growing up, a road trip meant there would be a basket of 'padkos'. We would stop along the roadside, occasionally at a designated picnic table, and tuck into a delicious array of sandwiches, chicken drumsticks, meatballs and the obligatory boiled eggs.
When you are so far away from your motherland or feeling homesick, there is no better comfort food than the food you grew up with. I started Padkos so that I could share my childhood favourites with fellow South Africans and introduce new flavours to the people of New Zealand.
I grew up on the East Rand of Johannesburg, cooking and baking tradition South African foods with my Ouma (grandmother). I love cooking and sharing good, honest food with people; being able to bring enjoyment and satisfaction through a meal or dish, is my happy place.
My background is in retail and art supplies, so I am loving that I can mix up creativity, styling and food to create delicious meals, beautiful grazing tables and delightful grazing boxes for everyone to enjoy.
